Gwlyb, gwlyb, gwlyb...

It has now been over two weeks since we've had a completely dry day...

We've put the hen and the chick (now 15 weeks old, so she should start laying soon) in with the general population, and then hen is now laying regularly -- little bantam eggs -- so cute!

Diolchgarwch hapus i bawb:

I've been in the kitchen lots lately as I can't do much outside in this weather... I've made my own mincemeat this year:

And I also made these yummy pumpkin cookies for my Welsh class:

Your mincemeat looks really good. Its definitely the weather for staying inside and eating mince pies.

Your mincemeat looks wonderful, and makes me think of how long it has been since I had a slice of my grandmothers mincemeat pie ;-(

Hi Jessica.

Haven't made the apple butter yet as the calorie content looked frightening! I haven't missed the rain up here but we had snow this weekend! Very seasonal! There are loads of pheasants round here but I haven't killed one yet! The shed looks very professionally made. 5*****'s!

June -- re apple butter: I use it like jam -- spread a bit on toast -- so the calorie content is not that frightening because you are only using it in small quantities!

Cyndy -- your comment reminded me of a funny story. The first time I came to the UK for Xmas, Greg was talking about mince pies, and I pictured a large pie, like I would make for an apple pie or something. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that mince pies in the UK are all little! Although I have come across old recipes for large mince pies, so they must once have existed, but they don't seem to now...

Hi Jessica!!

OK, so what is the mystery photo with the caption in Welsh, that looks like slices of colorful candied fruit with butter or custard in between...?

I tried to translate the Welsh but the dictionary couldn't find the last word, the rest translated to "thankful/happy to..."

please advise. also, have you eaten either of the pheasants yet, or did you just clean them and freeze them?

Jane:

That is my Aunt Ferne's special Jello... The caption says "Happy Thanksgiving to all" as it's something that she makes every year at Thanksgiving dinner (and which I have now started making as well).

As for the pheasants, they are in the freezer at the moment, but will probably become stew at some time in the near future!

How is your Mom doing?
