Pedwar Wy!

Yes folks, that's right, four eggs in one day... We are really getting back into production again. If you are interested in buying eggs, let me know. They're 90p for six.

Various people have told me that there are too many photos of eggs on this web site, but personally I don't think such a thing is possible, so here's another one. It amazes me how unique each egg is and how much variation there is from one to the next. Can you tell which eggs are New Girl's? :)

On the baking front, the other night Greg made crumpets -- from scratch -- they were delicious! This is Greg's Mom's homemade blackberry jam on top...

Ever wondered what to do with a surplus of beetroot (beets)? Look no further, the answer is beetroot pie. This is from a Martha recipe. It's not bad -- it actually tastes somewhat like pumpkin pie, with a bit of beet flavour thrown in -- but if I made it again I think I would puree the beets rather than grating like the recipe calls for.

I enjoy reading about your eggs! But which one are new girl's? And which hen is new girl, the former baby? How's the sick one?

Yes -- New Girl is the female chick who's all grown up now -- you should know -- you named her that when you were up here! Her eggs are the littlest ones -- they will get larger when she gets more used to laying...

The sick one is unfortunately still sick -- the antibiotics don't seem to have done anything. I was at the vet again the other day with the cats for their annual vaccinations and I asked the vet about the hen -- he said that basically the next step is to kill her and have her autopsied and then we will know what was wrong with her in the hopes that we can prevent it happening to the rest of the hens -- seeing as how this is the second one... So we are thinking about if we want to do this or not... :(

Yes, keep up with the eggs. :)
My hens aren't laying yet. Any time soon. Should i put something egg-like in their nest boxes so they know what to do?

How old are they? Mine were already laying when I got them. And it's summer where you are, so you are having long days now? If they are old enough I would think they would just lay. You might need to put fake eggs in the nest boxes if they are laying elsewhere, to encourage them to put the eggs where you want them, but they should just lay when they are old enough I would have thought. How old are they?

They were 2-3 months from point-of-lay when we bought them. It's 2 months now so the older 2 should start laying any day now.
I ask them every morning. 'Any eggs for me today?'

Yeah, I think you just have to be patient (easier said than done!) Have you decided how you're going to cook your first egg? :)
